FamILY – Fam(I Love You)

How important is your family to you? To most, family is the most important aspect of their lives. Family sticks together through the good and the bad times. We grow with our family, we learn with our family and love with our family. But, what defines the word “family”? and what does being a part of a family mean? To most, the word family means a group of biological Mother, Father, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents who come together a handful of times a year to celebrate the love we have for each other.

The true meaning of family is one person who loves another enough to call them family. In the modern day the word family has been bounced around and is no longer used in the traditional sense. Friends, pets, co-workers are now being classified as family. Many people consider friends to be as close or even closer than their extended family. Some friends are so close that they grow their lives together and in the end calling each other their second family.

Family can mean just two people who are madly in love or a single person with two cats. Pets can become family members very easily. For couples who are unable to conceive or choose not to have children, pets can be a replacement and be loved as much or even more than children.

This past Friday, April 10th, 2015 Aaron and his family welcomed a beautiful baby boy. Adrian Ryu Baksh was born at 8:40pm weighing 7lbs 5oz, Aaron cannot be more thrilled to watch is little boy grow up with his beautiful daughter. Family to Aaron is the most important aspect of his life, he can’t wait to grow old with his new family.

Regardless of how you choose to define your family, the definition of family is what it means to you. Whether it maybe with your parents, family, or pets. You choose who your family members are, love your family and they will love you for a lifetime.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Hibernation has been the only way us “Torontoarians” have gotten through this dreadful winter, it has come to easy for us to curl up by the fire, wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket with a coffee on hand. The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer but I ask myself; am I ready for spring? Am I ready to start spring cleaning?

Spring showers bring May’s flowers, the smell of spring is in the air! Why not have your home smelling like spring too? Spring cleaning is coming with a bang this season, many of us store or keep miscellaneous items around the house because a) it is too cold outside to throw anything out and b) we have this unnecessary need to keep everything just in case you will need it in the future.  Spring cleaning has become so necessary to organize what winter has left us, making room for the spring and summer seasons.

Cleaning does need to be a chore; here are some quirky tips on how to make your spring cleaning easy and fun!

1)      Clean a dirty unclean toilet with Coca-Cola – this may sound very strange but the carbonation in Coca-Cola is great to clean any dirt in the toilet.

2)      Wipe down stovetops with wax – simply apply a thin layer of car wax of your choice and then wipe it off with a paper towel. Your stovetop will thank you.

3)      Clean your toaster – you will be surprised that Cream of Tartar with a bit of scrubbing will make cleaning your toaster less of a hassle.

4)      Clean your baseboards – Use fabric softener to get the dirt off your baseboards.

Spring cleaning doesn’t need to be a task that seems to be never ending. Make a list, set dates and make your spring cleaning task fun this year!

Super Bowl 2015!!

*sound of opening chip bag, *freshly cracked beer can, and the crowd aka couch goers going insanely wild.

It’s that time of the year again sport fans, time for the annual Super bowl XLIX! This year’s contenders happen to be the New England Patriots vs the Seattle Seahawks who are heading to the Phoenix, Arizona  Stadium going head to head for the Vince Lombardi trophy, title of champions, and of course ultimate bragging rights.

For men this is the time to let loose revealing their inner patriotic couples, and for women well who doesn’t like the sight of buff men in extremely tight leggings?

With the ladies I know that the half time show is what we all look forward too each year and Katy Perry’s performance blew Ashlee Simpsons half time show back in 2008 out of the water! Missy Elliot made a surprise performance that turned a regular half time show into a show that no one will forget.

Sunday was filled with excitement when they came out with a tie at half time! With only seconds left in the game the New England Patriots squeeze by with a win! New England fans screams fill the stadium as Quarterback Tom Brady lifts up the trophy with the rest of his team.

The super bowl brings out the competitive edge out in all of us; it has become the number 1 watched show in all of Canada and United States. Who will be in the finals next year? Who do you think will rock the half time show? I have a feeling that the new epidemic of Arianna Grande will take the stage.

Strange Self-Storage Stories

We don’t like to talk about the weirder things people decide to put in storage, but it takes all kinds. Over the years we’ve read about some of the bizarre scenarios self storage operators have faced when unlocking an abandoned unit, and taken note of some of the more unusual items that consumers have chosen to save for a rainy day. For example: Grandma: Yes, it’s happened. While more than a few people have secured the ashes of a loved one or pet in a self storage unit, one family in Florida even decided to keep the casket containing their grandmother in a self storage unit. The remains were found when manager Kevin McKeon called the family to let them know their belongings were going to be auctioned off unless they paid their bill, which had gone long overdue. Indignant, the self storage tenant told Mr. McKeon he couldn’t possibly sell their stuff. As she explained quite sincerely, her mother “had told me on her deathbed that Grandma is in the storage unit.” It remains unclear whether criminal charges were filed. NASA rockets: A storage unit close to Florida’s Cape Canaveral was found to contain an old NASA rocket and countdown locking device by an auction buyer. Authenticated by an expert at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale, the equipment had apparently been stored as memorabilia from the early days of the space program.

What to Put in Self-Storage, What to Leave Out

It’s important to remember the few items that don’t do well in a self storage unit. After all, the safety of your belongings and those of others at our facility is paramount. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask one of our experienced storage consultants for not only guidance on what you can keep, but advice in finding an alternative location for any materials that aren’t suitable for All Canadian Self Storage. Vehicles and Extra Tires: Many consumers choose to store an extra car or truck in a self storage unit. Clean, dry and protected from the elements, it’s a great way to preserve a costly investment or collectible. Nevertheless, we recommend ensuring your vehicle remains in operable condition at all times, with no leaks or other issues that make it un-driveable. Also, check with us before storing tires. The cost of their removal can be prohibitive, and for our protection and yours we have limits on what you can safely store. Flammable liquids, hazardous chemicals, toxic substances: For obvious reasons, we don’t allow storage of ammunition, fireworks, explosives, fertilizer, paint, cleaning fluids, motor oil, corrosive materials, acids, propane, or gasoline in our storage facilities. As the trusted leader in self storage for the Toronto area, we’re committed to keeping the personal property of our customers safe over the long haul. Therefore, we rigorously enforce these restrictions for our units. If it’s dangerous, it doesn’t belong with us. It’s that simple. After all, your peace of mind is our business, and our promise to you throughout the year.

2nd Annual Cigar/BBQ Party – September 18th, 2014

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to those that know Hal Spradling that he loves to be involved and help where he can in his community. Hal brings this love of community support to his company, All Canadian Self-Storage, and by extension all of the team members. There are numerous organizations around the GTA that Hal and his team have raised funds and awareness for over the last decade.
One of the many community charities that All Canadian Self Storage has raised money for is Frontlines Community Centre. Frontlines Community Centre is a wonderful organization; they help the youth with before and After School activities, such as breakfast programs and organized afterschool activities. Frontlines have given the Weston community hope in creating a better life for the children in this diverse area; they have given children of all ages somewhere safe to “hangout”, space to pursue their interests , guidance in life’s challenges and hope for a brighter future.
It was not difficult for All Canadian Self-Storage to match themselves to this amazing community initiative. All Canadian’s Weston Rd facility had just opened up in May of 2013 and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to help the Weston Community as well as letting the community knows about our brand new drive-thru facility! In the summer of 2013, Hal Spradling and the staff of All Canadian put their minds together and organized the 1st Annual Cigar/BBQ Party at Martins Churrasqueira Restaurant to benefit Frontlines Community Centre!
It was an amazing summer night filled with friends (new and old), tons of laughter, cigars and an excellent BBQ feast from Martins Churrasqueira. The event was sold out to capacity and thousands of dollars were raised for Frontlines Community Centre.
The event was so successful that we are now selling tickets for our 2nd Annual Cigar/BBQ Party!
Tickets are $100.00 each. Every ticket includes 2 drinks (wine or beer), 3 cigars and a fresh BBQ dinner. We expect this event to be sold out again this year, as space is limited! You can purchase your tickets by contacting Stacey Scher at or by coming into any one of our six facilities around the GTA! Picture this; swaying back in forth to acoustic music, smoking the finest cigars and sipping on a nice glass of wine. It sounds to me like a perfect way to end a summer season.
You don’t want to miss this event! Get your tickets now so that you can join us at Martins on September 18th, 2014 from 6PM – 9PM. You will not be disappointed! This event is for an amazing cause; together we can make a difference.

Above and Beyond!

In this issue we are recognizing Aaron Baksh (Assistant Manager for Pack and Store). This past Sunday around 9:30am our driver Fahad called in a panic when he was using the moffett to take one of two containers off the truck; one of the hoses came undone and hydraulic fluid was pouring out on the customers drive way. Fahad knew what had to be done and he began cleaning the oil as much as he could.

He called Aaron (this being Aarons day off) to come help him out as the Moffett was unable to be operated, there were no questions asked and Aaron was on his way. When Aaron arrived almost all of the oil was cleaned up but the customer wasn’t very happy. Aaron apologized to the customer and assured him that all of his belongings will be re-delivered with no damage. Aaron put a temporary fix on the Moffett to move it out of the way (about 10 feet). As one container was already down it was easily unloaded by Aaron, Fahad, and some movers. However, the second container was still on the truck that was across the street! Aaron and Fahad decided that because the client needed their belongings that same day, they had to help the movers unload the contents while they were still on the truck and take them across the street and into the customer’s garage. All this was done while waiting for a mechanic to arrive to repair the Moffett.

3-4 hours later the job was complete; leaving the customer very happy. We recognize Aaron for his dedication on excellent customer service.

Aaron you are an asset to this company, you are a hard and motivated employee. Keep up the GREAT work!!

Helping Out Our Community the Best Way We Know How!

What a better way to celebrate a beautiful summer afternoon than to help out with a great cause! On June 30th, 2014 Pack and Store will be donating two of their containers to the Town of Richmond Canada Day Food Drive happening at the Richmond Green Park! The containers will be filled up with the community’s donations and our drivers will than deliver the containers full of non perishable food items to the local food bank.

This isn’t the only time Pack and Store donated their 5X8X7 container to help a community. From The Friends of Beltline, Willow Breast Cancer, Second Base Youth Centre, Vaughan/Woodbridge Run for the Cure; the donations will not stop now!

Now that the summer season has started, Pack and Store is ready to help in the best way they know how-By providing their perfect size container to charities that need the extra space to store food (above example), “If there is any way we can help out surrounding communities, we will.” says Aaron (Assistant Manager for Pack and Store).

You may ask why business should help their community. The opportunity to volunteer for a community can lift confidence, increase retention and overall will make your staff happier to work for your company and having happier staff can and will increase productivity. “Helping out the community can also help your employees feel that the effort they put in at work every day is contributing to the greater good.” (AICR – Corporate Responsibility However, Pack and Store believes the most important reason on why business should help their community is plain and simple; it is the right thing to do!

What time of Year Should I Use Mobile or Self-Storage?

Any time of the year is appropriate to use self-storage or mobile storage. It all comes down to when you prefer to use it. It could always happen when you randomly need storage because of certain situations and that’s fine. Pack and Store is here to help you any time of the year. Pack and Store partners with All Canadian Self-Storage, offering two different services. If you are considering self-storage in the winter time just remember this; ACSS offers indoor storage keeping you warm and toasty while moving your belongings from a truck to your unit. Pack and Store offers mobile containers that get dropped off at your residence for you or your bulky son to move your belongings from your house to your drive way, very fast and easy. The convenience of being able to store your belongings without being stuck out side for a long period of time is a great benefit in the spring time where the rain showers are nonstop. When using mobile storage you are able to keep the container on your lot or have it brought to our warehouse. If you are interested in having your container stay at your home but you are worried about having your belongings stuck outside during the winter and spring time, think about using mobile storage in the fall or summer time. The weather is very comfortable making moving that more efficient and quick. This goes for self-storage as well; during the fall and summer time the weather is a lot cooler and you are reducing the chance of your moving date landing on a weather warning.
Remember, Pack and Store mobile containers have weather proof covers keeping your belongings safe and dry even in the spring and winter months.
Whenever the time of year you want to use self-storage or mobile storage our customer service representatives are here to answer any questions you may have. We are here year round!
